Eight Vancouver Island Athletes Receive Funding from VIMSS

Courtenay, BC – Eight Vancouver Island athletes who compete in mountain sports have been awarded travel grants by the Vancouver Island Mountain Sport Society (VIMSS) to assist them with training and competition expenses.
VIMSS is a not-for-profit association that raises funds for emerging amateur athletes who compete in the mountain sports of Alpine, Nordic and Freestyle Skiing, snowboarding, adaptive snow sports, biathlon and mountain biking. Since 2003, the Society has raised over $75,000 in a variety of fundraising initiatives.
The following athletes* received travel grants:

- Max Heard, Freestyle Ski, Duncan
- Todd Heard, Freestyle Ski, Duncan
- Andrea Lee, Cross Country, Black Creek
- Maja Nymann, Alpine Ski, Campbell River
- Cassandra Sharpe, Freestyle Ski, Courtenay
- Darcy Sharpe, Snowboard, Courtenay
- Peter Stubbs, Freestyle Ski, Courtenay
“All funds raised help these dedicated athletes to offset the travel and competition costs that are the price of success,” said VIMSS Chair Rick Morson. “We wish all of the Vancouver Island athletes success in their competitions and training this season and we thank our sponsors and those who continue to support our fundraising efforts including Mount Washington Alpine Resort, Rick Gibson of Royal Lepage Realty and Timberwest.”
VIMSS currently completed the construction of a facility at Mount Washington that will benefit both athletes and the local community thanks in part to assistance from Western Economic Diversification, the Coast Sustainable Trust and the Island Coastal Economic Trust.
