HELPING ATHLETES

Our primary mandate is to help emerging competitive athletes on Vancouver Island. Through our fundraising initatives, we provide grants that offset costs associated with regional and national competitions and advanced training. Since 2003, we have helped Vancouver Island athletes in the mountain sports of alpine, nordic and freestyle skiing, snowboarding, adaptive snow sports, biathlon and cross-country mountain biking, by raising over $47,000 to offset their travel and competition costs.

VANCOUVER ISLAND MOUNTAIN CENTRE

With the help of public and private funding, we have accomplished Phase I of the Vancouver Island Mountain Centre (VIMC) project.  Upgrades to the existing nordic trail network and biathlon range, improvements in trail lighting systems and the development of a preliminary site survey for a facility that will benefit both athletes and recreational users are  now complete. Now we're on to Phase II, the construction of the VIMC and the Strathcona Provincial Park Outdoor Centre on land donated by Mount Washington Alpine Resort. Plans are moving rapidly to have the VIMC completed by 2009.
